| The Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, hosted the National Tap Dance Day on Saturday, May 31, at 7:30 pm.
National Tap Dance Day was designated by an Act of Congress in 1989 to "Honor Tap Dance". The day falls on May 25, the birthday of the late tap legend Bill "Bojangles" Robinson (1878-1949). Robinson tapped next to Shirley Temple in her many movies. The roots of tap have long been debated, either Irish or African-American, but one thing is for sure, it is uniquely American. National Tap Dance Day at the Harry Chapin Theater showcased the talents of old tap legends and up and coming stars. |
